Promoting healing and comfort
Whether due to a medical condition or an injury, you may find that walking is difficult, and that the healing process is taking longer than anticipated. By using methods such as soft cast bracing to relieve pressure, the team here at Prescription Footwear Associates can help speed up the healing process and reduce the risk of further problems recurring.
Such prescriptive footwear can be especially useful for patients with diabetes, who may be at risk from neuropathic ulcers or other tissue viability problems. No matter your needs, count on us to provide tailored support. You can also come to us for footwear adaptations.
The soft cast system
The soft cast system involves creating a custom device that uses circumferential containment of the calf and foot, to partially suspend the foot upon a total contact insole. The insole is designed to redistribute the peak plantar pressures, effectively spreading the load over a larger surface area. To allow a more natural heel to toe roll over and symmetrical gait, a custom rocker sole is built onto the device.
When is it the most suitable choice?
The soft cast system is currently used to allow individuals to ambulate with the following conditions:

-
Plantar foot ulceration (forefoot/mid foot/heel)
-
Digit (toe) and forefoot amputations
-
Charcot Osteoarthropathy
-
Certain foot and ankle deformities

The soft cast system is often used as a treatment phase before definitive orthotics are finalised.
