What does the assessment cover?
A biomechanical assessment is an investigation into your lower limb function – looking closely for abnormalities and compensations. At Prescription Footwear Associates we look closely into the underlying possible causes of the presenting issue. Our team will always complete a thorough assessment before we recommend or start any treatment. Following the assessment, we will give you an estimate of how much any treatment will cost.
At the initial assessment we will take a detailed history of the specific problem, your general health, footwear usage, work activities and social activities. We may also carry out further bio-mechanical investigations such as muscular control, neurological influences, limb length and alignment and your foot posture as you stand and walk.
Our specialists can assess:
-
Plantar fasciitis. The plantar fascia is a band of tissue that connects the heel to the toes, and is instrumental in stabilising the arch of the foot. When irritated it can cause pain in the heel and/or under the arch.
-
Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome. A painful foot condition where the tibial nerve is compressed as it travels through the tarsal tunnel (which is located along the inner leg)
-
Medial tibial stress syndrome. Shin Splints is a common term for shin pain during running. It is largely caused by over-use, with those who run regularly on hard surfaces being particularly affected. Altered foot, knee and hip posture can also influence the onset.
-
Achilles Tendinopathy. Damage to the Achilles Tendon either at the mid portion of the tendon or insertional where it attaches to the heel bone.
-
Hallux Limitus/Rigidus. This condition begins when your range of motion in the big toe is impaired. If left untreated it can advance to a point when the joint becomes completely locked placing strain on the soft tissues & other structures required to compensate for the immobility.
-
Metatarsalgia. A general term used for pain in the ball of the foot, requiring more detailed investigation to narrow the possible diagnoses.
-
Knee pain (chondromalacia/iliotibial band syndrome). Often referred to as runner's knee, it involves degeneration of the cartilage. Iliotibial band syndrome can present as pain on the outer thigh/knee where the iliotibial band (a thick connective tissue) becomes injured.
"I am sending this letter to thank you for the professionalism and treatment you have shown and given to myself over the last 6+ years regarding my Charcot feet.
If it had not been for yourself noticing an infection in one of my feet (for which I am truly grateful) and the prompt action of referral to the diabetic doctors, the situation could have got a whole lot more serious. I am also thankful for the latest lower limb braces that you have provided that were made from a 3D scan, they are a perfect fit.
Thank you very much for all your help."
